Philon Gives Verbal to ‘Bama, Woodson, Jr. Enrolls

Vigor High School (Prichard, AL) defensive lineman Darius Philon has given his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for 2012.

Philon, who stands 6-foot-2 and tops the scale at nearly 280 pounds, originally committed to Auburn University in May, but re-opened his recruitment 60 days later.

Philon becomes the 18th Alabama verbal commitment in respect to the 2012 signing class.

In what could be regarded as an unforeseen turn of events, freshman wide receiver Danny Woodson, Jr. has enrolled for the fall semester.

Nick Saban addressed the media on Wednesday and noted that Woodson, Jr. made the Aug. 31 academic deadline (last day to enroll in the fall semester) and is now officially a scholarship member of the 2011 Crimson Tide football team.

It was originally speculated that Woodson, Jr. would greyshirt and defer enrollment until January of 2012.

The late arrival of Duron Carter, which exhausted a scholarship, aided as a catalyst in the deferral speculation on the grounds that Woodson, Jr. had yet to enroll.
