Grant Hill gives verbal to ‘Bama

Less than 24 hours after Alabama received a verbal commitment from running back Tyren Jones, the Crimson Tide have once again received the approval of another top prospect.

Huntsville High School offensive lineman Grant Hill has given his verbal to the University of Alabama, and becomes the ninth verbal commitment for the Crimson Tide in respect to the 2013 signing class.

Hill, who stands 6-foot-6 and tops the scale at over 300-pounds, is considered one of the top offensive linemen in the nation.

Hill, like Tyren Jones, attended Alabama’s “Junior Day” recruiting event last weekend.

Tyren Jones gives verbal to ‘Bama

Once National Signing Day comes to an end, the college football world, from a fan prospective, enters the hibernation period.

Thankfully, for ‘Bama fans, Nick Saban and his staff have no concept of such an interlude.

During a period on the calendar where college basketball reigns, Alabama received their eighth verbal commitment of 2013 when running back Tyren Jones pledged to UA, Tuesday night.

Jones visited Tuscaloosa last weekend during Alabama’s “Junior Day” recruiting event. The occasion was the second “Junior Day” function Alabama has held in 2012.

Jones, a product of Marietta, Georgia, is considered a four-star talent per Rivals.com and arguably the top running back prospect in the state of Georgia. Jones selected the Crimson Tide over the likes of Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

‘Bama loses three verbal commitments on NSD

Per Rivals.com, the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban have claimed yet another National Signing Day title; however, ‘Bama did fail to secure three prior verbal commitments due to an assortment of reasons.

Wide receiver Casey Gladney failed to sign with the Crimson Tide due to what was believed to be his high school academic standing. Rumors of Gladney’s academic hardship(s) had been swirling for months.

Despite his potential academic shortcomings in respect to the University of Alabama, Gladney inked his National Letter of Intent with Texas Tech on Wednesday.

Defensive lineman Darius Philon and running back Justin Taylor were the unfortunate “victims” of the SEC imposed 25-player signing cap.

Rather than deferring enrollment to Alabama (grayshirt) until January of 2013, Philon signed his National Letter of Intent with Arkansas, while Taylor selected the University of Kentucky over the likes of Ole Miss and Alabama.

When all was said and done on NSD, Alabama signed the “cap number” of 25, plus another commitment who was a “hold over” from a prior class.
