Championship teams are built around championship players and three members of the Alabama Crimson Tide have been honored with preseason recognition.

Left tackle James Carpenter, defensive end Marcell Dareus and linebacker Dont’a Hightower have been included on the Lombardi Award watch list for the 2010 season.

The Lombardi trophy is given to the top interior lineman in the nation.

In 2009, former Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody was a Lombardi finalist. The coveted award was eventually presented to former Nebraska standout, Ndamukong Suh.
