Phillip Ely Commits to Alabama

Wednesday afternoon Alabama received a “surprise” verbal commitment from quarterback Phillip Ely of Tampa, Florida.

The talented standout is considered a “surprise” because he didn’t receive a scholarship offer from Alabama until recently.

‘Bama made a late push for his services…and Ely gave his verbal to the Tide.

The pro-style quarterback is considered a four-star recruit according to rivals.com and is certainly a gifted passer and overall athlete. Ely stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds.

The Florida product becomes the 17th verbal commitment for the 2011 signing class and the first quarterback.
