Eddie Lacy rushed for 106 yards and AJ McCarron threw three touchdown passes, as the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide improved to 4-0 on the season courtesy of a 40-7 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls.
Alabama jumped on FAU early in the contest, and held a 30-0 lead at the half. The Crimson Tide used the second half of play to essentially empty the bench and allow backup players to earn critical playing time.
On the afternoon, ‘Bama garnered 503 yards of total offense and 25 first downs, while holding the Owls to only 110 yards and six first downs.
One of the offensive highlights for the Crimson Tide came on the initial score of the game. AJ McCarron found Kenny Bell on an 85-yard touchdown strike which effectively set the tone for the remainder of the contest. The McCarron/Bell connection tied for the fifth longest touchdown pass in Alabama program history.
Arguably the only “suspense” in the game took place during the latter stages of the contest, as the Tide defense attempted to pitch a shutout for the third consecutive week. Although the Owls were competing against the Alabama defensive reserves, FAU did score a touchdown in the waning minutes to eliminate the possibility of a shutout.
The Crimson Tide will now enter the “SEC gauntlet” which will commence Saturday night with a home contest against the Ole Miss Rebels.
