Alabama Crimson Tide safety Mark Barron was arrested early Sunday morning in Mobile and charged with hindering prosecution, which is a second-degree misdemeanor.
Mobile police say the Crimson Tide senior lied to authorities in order to protect his cousin who wrecked Barron’s car on I-10.
Barron was processed into the Mobile Metro Jail at roughly 7:30 a.m. and was released within the hour on $500 surety bond.
Barron’s cousin, Jamal Lang, will be issued a citation for leaving the scene of the accident.
Barron, who is recovering from pectoral surgery, is expected to play a vital role on the defensive side of the ball in 2011.
