Cooper Bateman gives verbal to ‘Bama

One of the most highly touted quarterback prospects in the nation has given his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.

Cooper Bateman, a four-star talent from Salt Lake City, Utah, issued a written statement this morning confirming his future plans.

"This has been a great time in my life, I have had the rare opportunity to be able to choose from many great schools that would allow me to get a college degree and continue to play the game that I love. This has been a very difficult decision only because I was able to meet and get to know so many wonderful coaches at so many great universities. I have chosen to attend the University of Alabama. I am honored that I will get to learn from Coach Saban and Coach Nussmeier and will get to represent Alabama, the state and the University. I want to thank my coaches at Cottonwood for all they have done for me and mostly to my parents who have made this all possible."

Bateman, who stands 6-foot-3, and tops the scale at 190-pounds, selected the Crimson Tide over “virtually” every major program in the nation, although, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Washington were the schools in his final selection pool.

In respect to game production, Bateman threw for 2,484 yards, including 26 touchdowns, during his junior season of 2011.

Since his arrival at Alabama in 2007, Nick Saban has signed players from 17 different states. Cooper Bateman becomes the first player from the state of Utah, and also the 12th verbal commitment for the Crimson Tide in respect to the 2013 signing class.
